"To you, Sons of Confederate Veterans, we will commit the vindication of the cause for which we fought. To your strength will be given the defense of the Confederate soldier's good name, the guardianship of his history, the emulation of his virtues, the perpetuation of those principles which he loved and which you love also, and those ideals which made him glorious and which you also cherish."

Confederate Flag Day

It's getting to be that busy time of the Camp's calendar again and this year promises to be especially full. This past weekend saw the annual Confederate Flag Day, Confederate Memorial Day, and the start of Confederate History Week for Arkansas, all three celebrated at the Capitol in Little Rock on Saturday. The weather cooperated and the ceremony, which included a reading of many of the names of Arkansans killed in the War Between the States, was moving as always. Arkansas is one of the few States that still has a Confederate Flag Day legally prescribed by State law and we need to make every effort to keep it. One of the best ways to do this is to be at the event every year and show that there are still lots of folks that care about our Confederate flags and support the right to fly them.
April 9th saw our first Confederate encampment of the year at the Prairie Grove Battlefield and we were kept on our feet all day talking with the many visitors. We even had a tour bus full of folks from Oklahoma stop by plus lots of kids getting their pictures taken with us on their way to the Prairie Grove High School prom. Great fun for all involved.
