If you have never been to an SCV Annual Reunion you have missed out on one of the most rewarding and enjoyable times the SCV has to offer. You spend three or four days in the company of folks that have the same driving interest as yourself , though their background and lifestyles may be entirely different than your own. There is a sense of camaraderie and unity of purpose that pervades all of the activities and crosses all social, racial, and economic lines, whether in a business meeting , on a tour of historic places, or at the Ball doing the Virginia Reel with dozens of other couples. You get to know people that are otherwise only names or pictures in the Confederate Veteran, or at best, a voice on the other end of the telephone. It also helps you to realize that you are part of something that has been around a long time and yet is as relevant today as the striving for freedom was to our confederate ancestors when they formed their own Nation.
The next opportunity you will have to attend this invigorating event will be in July of this coming year. It will be held in the birthplace of the CSA, Montgomery, Alabama and promises to be an extraordinary event. Start putting some money aside and plan to be there. It will be the 150th anniversary of the formation of our Confederacy and there will not be another such milestone until 2061 at the bi-centennial. I might not be able to make that one, so I am sure as heck planning to be at this event. I hope you are too.
