July 4th Parade
Once again the weather has cooperated with mild temperature, a nice breeze, and the rain holding off until after the parade was over. We arrived at the rodeo grounds and found Doug Laman and the Earle Camp folks setting up the float with the Confederate Cavalry prancing their horses up and down the field with Paskell Griffith leading. After helping with the float and loading our gear on, we were able to spend some time visiting before the parade started. I was surprised at the size of the parade with several hundred horses and bunches of floats and decorated vehicles of every description in a line that stretched at least a mile long. The streets were lined with spectators waving, smiling and taking pictures and numerous times cheering when our float and Cavalry passed by. Next year we will be sure to have the Confederate coins to toss out to the kids. All our guys looked great and I am sure the SCV made a good impression on the crowd. Oh yeah, I didn't mention that we won a nice trophy for the best float in the parade! It was a lot of fun and if you missed it this year be sure to make a point of being there next year.
