"To you, Sons of Confederate Veterans, we will commit the vindication of the cause for which we fought. To your strength will be given the defense of the Confederate soldier's good name, the guardianship of his history, the emulation of his virtues, the perpetuation of those principles which he loved and which you love also, and those ideals which made him glorious and which you also cherish."

Confederate Memorial Day

Saturday, June 5th, was an absolutely beautiful day for the memorial ceremony at the Fayetteville Confederate Cemetery. Folks started arriving shortly after eight o'clock to help set up and to place the six hundred flags over the graves of our fallen Confederate heroes. It is an honor to be involved in the memorial ceremony whether as a member of the SMA, UDC, SCV, OCR, or as a patriotic citizen there to remember these men.

Randy and Haley did a superb job with their musical tributes and the guys and gals in their period dress added mightily to the atmosphere of remembrance. I was proud of the good turnout from our camp and I think that everyone who could be there was there. Dan Schweider, Doug Laman, and Paskell Griffith all gave noteworthy addresses and the tribute to Aaron Bowers was especially touching.
