"To you, Sons of Confederate Veterans, we will commit the vindication of the cause for which we fought. To your strength will be given the defense of the Confederate soldier's good name, the guardianship of his history, the emulation of his virtues, the perpetuation of those principles which he loved and which you love also, and those ideals which made him glorious and which you also cherish."

Confederate Encampment

We made it through our first weekend encampment at the Prairie Grove Battlefield Park and, much to our surprise, there were few glitches. The tents and equipment looked great, the guys certainly looked the part of the soldiers they were representing and the weather cooperated. Great campfire cooking with meatloaf, fried 'taters, and strawberry cobbler making the menu Saturday afternoon. We talked with visitors (especially kids) all day long both days and it was great exposure for the SCV and our Camp. The next encampment will be Saturday from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. and Sunday from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., the 12th and 13th of June. This month's encampment should be even better as the men from the Earle Camp will be joining us and bringing their cannon. We will be setting up between the Dog Trot House and the blacksmith shop. We will have our monthly meeting at the close of the encampment at three o'clock on Sunday so come join us this weekend and relax in the shade while we sojourn back to a simpler time.
